Medical
Minor injuries
Help yourself to bandaids, bandage at the First Aid Station as required.
Contact staff or other members for additional first aid help.
Fall, Collapse or Serious Injury
Ensure the accident scene is safe and that there are no further dangers to you or the injured person.
Do not move the injured person unless there is a high risk of further injury
Keep calm and do not leave the injured person unattended.
Contact staff or first aid attendant. Be prepared to assist as directed
Call 911
Alarm
Evacuate the building/premises as quickly as possible
Go to the assembly area
Fire
Shout “Fire” and activate the nearest fire alarm pull station.
Call 911. State the location and nature of the emergency or have someone else do so and report back to you.
If trained and safe to do so, attempt to extinguish or control the fire with appropriate fire-fighting equipment.
If not safe to do so or if you cannot extinguish or control the fire, then close the door.
Evacuate the area and proceed to the assembly area.
Do not re-enter the building for any reason until indicated it is safe to do so.
Report to staff or authorities at the assembly area and start a headcount.
Security
Theft
Notify staff. Staff will review CCTV footage and retrieve pictures/videos if relevant

Trespassing
Alert staff. If in progress, staff will call 911.
If no staff are present/after hours, take reasonable measures to protect yourself and contact 911.

Alert staff. Staff will contact 911 and take appropriate action.

Building Emergency
Flood/Water Leak
Turn off water source for affected toilet/sink if you can identify it.
Turn off Main Water Shut Off (underneath the kitchenette sink on the first floor) for larger floods or floods from an unknown source.
For roof leaks place buckets/containers to help contain the leak until it can be patched up. Check in on occasion should it be near-full and swap out the containers to drain.
Contact staff for all events of flood/water leak. Staff will contact Low Tide properties at https://www.lowtideproperties.com/tenant-services/ or call 1-888-221-5586 for an after-hours emergency. Low Tide will coordinate the deployment of appropriate technicians while present staff/members mitigate the damage.
Broken Window
Notify staff.
Staff will review security footage if possible and file a police report.
Staff will submit the report for insurance and replacement of the broken window.
Other
Take reasonable measures to protect staff/members/guests from the hazard or send someone to report the damage to a staff member (and report back to you) while you continue to watch the hazard.
Determine the best course of action to remedy or isolate the hazard (request help from another person if necessary)
Report hazard to staff including location and description of damage.

Power Outage
In the event of a power outage, MakerLabs will be considered as closed until power is restored. All staff and members on site during the outage must follow these steps:
Check BC Hydro's website to find out when the power will be coming back on. If it won't be restored in the immediate future, proceed with the following:
Members will safely evacuate the building. Take extra care in the dark and use a flashlight/phone light if needed.
The doors FOBs will no longer work without power; please ensure you have all of your belongings with you as you won't be able to re-enter the building.
Staff will lock the front door and gate.
Only staff with a physical key will be able to access the building during a power outage.
Staff will turn off all tools to avoid unexpected startups and accidents when power returns.
Staff will conduct a closing walkthrough to ensure the building is empty
Staff will notify all members via email, Slack and Facebook of the closure until power is restored.

*Depending on the time of day, to ensure there are no unexpected issues with equipment, MakerLabs may remain closed for the day even if the power has been returned to audit equipment and spaces.
Earthquake
In an event of an earthquake, take appropriate safety precautions.
Seek shelter away from falling items.
Face away from any windows and brace the back of your head/neck with your hands.
Count loudly from 60 after the end of the last tremor in case of aftershock tremors. If another tremor happens, restart the count when the tremor ends.
Leave the building if and when it is safe to do so.

Conveyor Belt (currently out of order)
When not in use, the conveyor is powered off and turned off at the breaker (2nd floor, SE corner, Panel A, breaker 19).
The conveyor can only be used if it is less risky than using the stairs.
Staff permission must be obtained prior to using the conveyor.
A minimum of two people must be present to operate the conveyor: one person at the top of the conveyor and one person at the bottom. Only the top person can control the conveyor movement.
The items on the conveyor must be secured and prevented from sliding.
